Successful students in this course will gain a broad understanding of important issues faced by people all around the world, as well as insight into the various conditions that enable or inhibit people's ability to deal with or understand those issues. With larger issues like global warming, requiring cooperation globally, social and cultural norms, political and economic factors, as well as different understandings or degrees of acceptance of perceptions of issues all complicate attempts to solve many of the problems people face. As a result, these issues and problems tend to be evolving, and peoples responses to them continually adapting to those changes. An awareness of the various issues the world faces (at both the macro and micro level) is the foundation of a global perspective.

授業の概要Method of Instruction

This will primarily be a discussion focused course. Discussions will focus on the issues of the day with the aim of understanding those issues but also their relation to other issues (e.g. crime and economic disparities), and what connection they may have to us.
