授業の概要Method of Instruction

This course is intended to help students develop their comprehensive language and academic skills to the advanced level needed to understand, discuss and respond to diverse materials related to global issues.
The aim is to explore how language (both spoken and written) serves as a cognitive tool for our understanding of the contemporaneity. Using authentic and relevant contents, including academic texts, video, charts, and other informative materials, students will be encouraged to work effectively and confidently on improving their foreign language communication skills.
Class activities will focus on attaining a deep understanding of cultural, social, political topics, and on acquiring appropriate vocabulary and expressions (both in English and in Japanese) that describe globalized world.
The following are the key topics and objectives:
1. Valuing cultural diversity
2. Openness to cultural otherness and to other beliefs, world views and practices
3. Skills: analytical and critical thinking
4. Linguistic, communicative and plurilingual skills
5. Knowledge and critical understanding of language and communication
