This course aims to build students' awareness and understanding of the various challenges and opportunities associated with intercultural communication. Students will acquire the practical language skills needed to consider facts and opinions on the topic of intercultural communication from diverse perspectives and to engage in purposeful and appropriately eloquent discussion. After successful completion of the course, students will demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to a variety of cultural perspectives and acquire knowledge and skills that increase their intercultural communication competence.

Students will gain knowledge about and critically assess theories and concepts that provide a framework for understanding how culture and communication influence each other and how cultural, historical, and political contexts affect intercultural interactions/relationships. After successful completion of the course, students will also be able to identify and understand barriers to communication, such as racism and sexism, and be able to creatively address these issues.

授業の概要Method of Instruction

This course will consist of weekly lectures covering various concepts and theories that are related to intercultural communication in a variety of contexts. Each lecture will be followed by in-depth discussions, student-led exercises, and presentations. During each class, students are required to critically reflect on what they have learned and be ready to discuss their opinions and thoughts.
