The purpose of this course will be to help students deepen their knowledge of various life themes and improve both their critical thinking and English skills by studying cultural topics, global issues and current events. Themes that will be introduced include culture & identity, music & movies, globalization & economics, nature & ecology, education & work and healthy lifestyles.

授業の概要Method of Instruction

Students will have the opportunity to learn useful vocabulary and a variety of interesting topics. Written study materials and videos will provide students with a chance to study useful English and observe how vocabulary is used in specific situations. Additional media materials related to course topics will be provided on Moodle. Students will be asked to communicate with each other in English, write reports and deliver short presentations.

Students will be expected to study assigned readings before class, to research related topics and write weekly reports describing their opinion of the themes presented in class and via Moodle. Additional home viewing of videos and TED talks will be assigned.

履修上の注意Other Course Information

Students must take the TOEIC IP Test, this will be required during the middle of the semester and used in the class evaluation. Students who have not taken the test will be reduced one level「TOEIC IPテストのスコアを授業評価に反映する。評価方法については、入学時に配布されたプリントを参照すること。なお、非受験者は講義評価から1段階下がる点に留意。」
