This course will focus on developing communication skills through activities using the skills of speaking,
listening, reading, and writing. The main goal of the course will be to enable the students to communicate
effectively and appropriately in real life situations. This goal will be met by encouraging students to work
effectively and confidently by improving their foreign language language skills. We will focus on improving
communicative competence.

授業の概要Method of Instruction

All students will be given an opportunity to express opinions on the topics, texts and media content through
group and written work. Explicit instruction in and practice of listening and speaking skills, including
pronunciation, will develop language proficiency. Activities to build academic skills, such as critical thinking
and discussion, are integrated with each unit.

事前・事後学習、時間等Study Required outside Class(Preparation, etc.)

Study outside class consists of regular review of each unit, and preview of the subsequent unit. Optionally, use
the free, downloadable contents from the publisher is an important component of this review and preview. We will
also use a smartphone application to assist your learning and guidance will be given in class for this.

We will have homework after each lesson and the responses will be checked and discussed in the following class.
Homework will be submitted using Moodle. Students must submit ALL the lesson preparation homework activities by
the deadline (deadlines will be on Moodle) before the start of lesson. Students who miss the homework deadline
will not gain credit for that assignment.

There is no end of term examination (no ‘Teiki Shiken’) during the official examination period. There will also be no reexamination (no ‘Sai Shiken’) in this course.
