授業の概要Method of Instruction

Each week, students will watch or listen to a presentation on a topic from their course textbook. After each presentation, students will have short discussions. In these short discussions, students will ask and answer questions and give opinions about the topic in pairs or groups. After the short discussions, students will study vocabulary and important grammar from the presentations (language study). A There will be online MyELT homework most weeks. The teacher will inform students about the details of the MyELT online work in Weeks 1 and 2 of the course.

事前・事後学習、時間等Study Required outside Class(Preparation, etc.)

Most weeks, students will have two types of homework: (1) LESSON PREPARATION homework and (2) LESSON REVIEW homework.
The LESSON PREPARATION homework helps students to get ready for the next week lesson. This homework includes reading about the next lesson topic, studying vocabulary students should know before the next lesson, and preparing their ideas for the classroom discussions they will have in the next lesson.
The LESSON REVIEW homework is online. This homework reviews what students studied before in the previous classroom lesson.

成績評価Evaluation

成績評価の方法 / Evaluation Method

(a) 50% Classroom Study (classroom work uploaded to Moodle). Demonstrates student's initial ability to understand the main points presented in the textbook reading and listening topics. Students must come to lessons every week. ‘Classroom Study’ will include helping other students with answering textbook questions, asking questions, answering questions, and sharing opinions when having group or pair discussions. Students who do not participate well or who make it difficult for other students to learn will lose points.

(b) 50% Online Homework (MyELT website). This is LESSON REVIEW and PRACTICE of the grammar and vocabulary items taught inthe classroom. This homework takes the form of online quizzes. However, these quizzes are open-book (you can use your textbook and dictionary) and easy for students who come to class and participate in the lessons. This homework ("quizzes") must be finished before the start of following lesson. Students who miss a quiz will get a zero for that quiz. There will be no makeup homework.

NOTE: Students must take the TOEIC IP Test, this will be required during the middle of the semester and used in the class evaluation. High TOEIC IP scores can raise a student's course grade. Students who have not taken the test will be reduced one level「TOEIC IPテストのスコアを授業評価に反映する。評価方法については、入学時に 配布されたプリントを参照すること。なお、非受験者は講義評価から1段階下がる点に留意。」

There is no end of term examination (no ‘Teiki Shiken’) during the official examination period. There will also be no reexamination (no ‘Sai Shiken’) in this course. 「このクラスは定期試験期間中には試験は実施しません。よって再試験も実施しません。」
