授業の概要Method of Instruction

This is an interactive, student-focused class covering the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing English. Grammar and vocabulary are taught as needed to improve these skills. The topic will be presented, goals for the class explained Selected textbook exercises completed. Receptive skills are strongly emphasized, gradually building to more productive skills. Writing and reading will often, by not always, be assigned as homework so that students have adequate time to process and produce. In class, pair work and group work will be a fundamental part of student participation.

Students should preview the sections (listed on the syllabus) that will be covered for that day. Students must bring the textbook to each class, with homework completed before the start of class. Homework assignments will be given in class. Homework assignments include reading or writing from the textbook, and/or sections from the workbook. Late assignments are not accepted. Homework will take from thirty minutes to one hour per week.

課題の種類・内容Homework, Assignments, etc.

Students can prepare for class by looking at the sections in the textbook listed on the syllabus for that day's class. Homework will be assigned in class, and is always due before the following week's class begins. Late homework is not accepted.

Particularly for in-class group work and pair work, feedback will be given verbally on a group and/or individual level. Writing assignments will be marked by hand, with feedback.

Unit tests will help students know if they have understood and can use the class targets.

Students must take the TOEIC IP Test, this will be required during the middle of the semester and used in the class evaluation. Students who have not taken the test will be reduced one level「TOEIC IPテストのスコアを授業評価に反映する。評価方法については、入学時に 配布されたプリントを参照すること。なお、非受験者は講義評価から1段階下がる点に留意。」
