This course aims to build students' awareness and understanding of the various issues and tasks associated with organizational and corporate communication. Students will acquire the practical communication skills needed to consider how the phenomena in the field of organizational communication are constructed from diverse perspectives and to engage in appropriately eloquent discussion. After successful completion of the course, students will demonstrate effective message creation and conduct an corporate communication practices in a variety of stakeholders related to organization and business, so that knowledge and perspectives are acquire to increase their communication competence.

Students will gain knowledge about research methods and various theories and concepts that provide a framework for understanding communication in business and organization. After successful completion of the course, students will be able to identify the organizational issues and social tasks and discuss appropriate decision-making, conflict resolution and negotiation. In addition, students will also be able to conduct effective leadership and facilitate team work in order to accomplish organizational goals.

授業の概要Method of Instruction

This course offers two aspects of organizational communication. First, in the first half of the course, students are mainly studying internal organizational communication in terms of theory and practice. In particular, interpersonal skills and theories of leadership, decision-making, and conflict resolution are studied through lectures, case studies, and role-play in the class. This section also focuses on crucial issues of power in organization, such as gender, LGBTQs, and diversity workplace. Second, the last half of this course will focus on external organizational communication; outward-facing communication by organizations, taking a closer look at the important issues of corporate communication, ie., information strategies to communicate various stakeholders. The issues of corporate social responsibilities (CSR), corporate identity, corporate reputation, risk management and crisis communication.

The instructors will assign various materials such as videos, websites, and magazine and newspaper articles.

課題の種類・内容Homework, Assignments, etc.

Each student will be required to complete all assignments and participate actively in class.
(1) Interview Project: students have to conduct an interview with an appropriate person and investigate some issues of organizational communication.
(2) Group Presentation: Students will be expected to prepare and deliver group presentations and actively participate in group discussions.
(3) Final exam: this will be a comprehensive exam during the exam week.

TOEIC-IPテストで650点以上、もしくはそれに相当する語学力を求める。ただし、定員を超過した場合は、語学力と通算GPAを総合的に勘案し、選抜する。
(注)このクラスは、コロナ感染の状況にともないオンラインになることもある。教室での対面ができない状況下では、オンライン・テレビ会議システムを使い、時間割り通りに授業を行う。そのため、これに参加できるようなネット環境を準備してもらいたい。
