授業の概要Method of Instruction

[ユスチナ W.カシャ] sessions (木曜3時限) will use “Pathways Listening and Speaking (L/S) Split 3B” and [T.H.ケイトン] sessions (金曜2時限) will use “Pathways Reading and Writing (R/W) Split 3B.”

[ユスチナ W.カシャ: Pathways L/S Split 3B]
These sessions will focus on instruction in and active practice of listening skills (such as note-taking, listening for reasons and opinions, and making inferences from context) and speaking skills (including clarifying and rephrasing, and pronunciation).

[T.H.ケイトン: Pathways R/W Split 3B]
These sessions will focus on instruction in and active practice of reading skills (such as note-taking, identifying main ideas, inference, and prediction), and writing skills (including summarizing, structuring and developing paragraphs, drafting, and editing).

Both L/S and R/W sessions will include activities to build academic skills, such as critical thinking and discussion, as well as vocabulary-building.

事前・事後学習、時間等Study Required outside Class(Preparation, etc.)

Two classes’ worth of independent study is required for each session. Students are required to do the following tasks for each session:
・Prior to each session, preview the vocabulary, topic, and content of the forthcoming textbook unit, as well as the language skills and tasks required (30% of the study time required outside of class).
・After each session, review the vocabulary, content, and tasks from the session and work on follow-up tasks using MyELT and other online platforms (70% of the study time required outside of class).

Homework consists of regular review activities using MyELT, which include automatically graded listening, reading, and writing activities and video clips, as well as preparation for and practice of spoken assignments.

Instructors will observe and comment on students’ in-class activities and provide feedback on assignments using Moodle and other platforms. Feedback will also be provided online by MyELT.
